It also termed as blood letting. Mostly the impurities of blood are lowered through this process. It is done by two methods.
1. JALAUKA ( Leech application ) :- mostly; for pitta dushit rakta, leeches are used. Also when there is local skin patch; jalauka are used.
2. SYRINGING METHOD :- when the blood in the whole body is affected by vitiated doshas; syringing method is recommended.
Raktamokashan is used in diseases e.g. stomatitis, herpes zoaster, glaucoma, pruritis, itching, skin disorders, burning sensation in whole body / bodypart.
As per device usage there are eight types:-
7. Pracchan karma ( multiple incisions )
8. Vigharshan ( scrapping ).

Instillation of medicated oils / ghee / powders through nasal route is called as nasya. Nasal route is the main route for the diseses of sense organs, organs above neck, etc. mostly doshas creating diseases of organs above neck, are removed with nasya.

After snehan & swedana procedures, medicated purgatives are given to patients; as per his body strength, is called as virechana. Mostly pittaj vyadhi / diseases are indicated for virechana. Vitiated & abnormal pitta is excreted out of the body, so it helps in being healthy & recurrence of the disease can be avoided.

This is supposed to be the main karma in panchakarmas. Decoctionn is introduced into the rectum.

Emesis done with medicines is called as vaman. Its one of the main of five main karmas. Its karma for kapha dosha ( kaphaj disorders ). All diseases in which kapha vitiated, are indicated for vaman. Vitiated kapha is expelled out of the body.
